As the current of the awa carves a path through the land, it widens and deepens and gains everlasting strength and vitality.
It has the power to uplift and propel us forward, so too do our collective wisdoms, perspectives and stories.
In 2023 Hokowhitu Children’s Centre was renamed to Te Korio Children’s Centre. ‘Te Korio’ is the name of the current in the Manawatū river, and is known as the starting point for one’s journey on the river, as a safe haven for that journey, that it will uplift and propel you forward in your journey, and that the journey is everlasting. We see this name aligning with our whānau, committee and teacher’s commitment to the learning journey of our children.
Te Korio Children’s Centre is a truly multi-cultural Centre, nestled in a semi-rural setting, amongst Palmerston North’s agricultural hub and just an 8-minute drive from the square. It’s safe to say, our Centre is a hidden gem, with a very special feel.
We have been a community based not-for-profit early childhood centre since 1987. This means that all income the Centre generates is put back into the Centre, and ultimately our children. Our aim is to provide the best possible learning environment for our children. To achieve this, we are proud to maintain a quality teacher-to-child ratio that allows us to offer individualised learning and support to every child. The Centre is also an incorporated society, registered charity and is governed by a management committee made up of Centre whānau.
